We recommend the Machame route for most ers, because taking an extra day during the climb allows for a slower pace, and gives hikers more time to adjust to the altitude, which reduces altitude sickness. The Machame route approaches Kilimanjaro through forest and moorland from the south \u2013 west and joins the Shira route before traversing beneath the southern ice fields of Kibo.<\/p>\n

\nDrive to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate at Marangu for entry registration. Start the trek to Machame hut through thick rain forest. Have packed lunch on the way. Dinner and retire for the day.<\/td>\n		Machame hut. Fullboard<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

5<\/td>\n AM<\/i><\/td>\nBarranco camp \u2013 Barafu camp (15,090ft\/4600m) <\/strong>
\nAcross the Karanga Valley and ascend to Barafu campsite. Have dinner and take the day\u2019s rest ready for the hike to the summit.
